My opinion only, and I admit to being a big fan of his books. It felt like it took forever for the book to get started and then for anything to really happen. Simmons has a wonderful way with words, and the scenes he paints with them remain vivid in your mind, even as the scenes change. I'm sure that many readers will find this book frustrating and even boring at times.
However he does have some faults as a writer, and "The Abominable" showcases these to unfortunate effect.
