Thinking about the past or the future can never substitute for the immediacy of life in the present moment. That is why John in 1 John writes about how he physically saw and touched and heard the resurrected Jesus. Is Jesus’s resurrection a myth or clever fable we’ve been told to believe, or is there evidence proving he really resurrected? Either we believe Christ rose from the dead and ascended to heaven or we do not. If they ask me for something which might be good for them and they ask persistently, I might well give it to them. [External Resource: What is the historical evidence that Jesus Christ lived and died? This proof goes back to the original point, namely, that a humble heart is enlightened and illuminated by far more than logic or reason. You have the words of real life, eternal life.” That is, “I’ve looked and there don’t seem to be any viable alternatives”. And throughout history, many have become convinced of Jesus’ risen status because of these historical reasons. As to the form of my resurrected body, I am not so much a fool as to comment (1 Cor 15:35ff). If God exists, and if He created the universe and has power over it, then He has power to raise the dead. The human heart is singularly susceptible to fickleness, to change, to promises, to bribery. (Accounts of the locations and occasions of the appearances differ in various Gospels.) Over 500 people other than the eleven disciples saw Jesus resurrected as well, many of whom were still living some thirty years after Jesus’s crucifixion, meaning interested people could go and interview those who had witnessed. This necessity applies, in particular, to belief in Jesus’ material/bodily resurrection from the dead. Even if all this evidence provides reasonable grounds to believe Jesus truly was resurrected, is faith still required of us? The resurrection provides that kind of guarantee because if the resurrection happened as the Bible describes – the coming to life again of somebody who was dead for 36 hours – then it was clearly a setting aside of the laws of nature and therefore something which the author of the laws of nature alone can do. Ancient Middle Eastern religious thought provided a background for belief in the resurrection of a divine being (e.g., the Babylonian vegetation god Tammuz), but belief in personal resurrection of humans was unknown. One of the reasons most Christians find it hard to believe that I am a Christian myself is because I do not affirm the physical resurrection of Jesus Christ. We might say one or two people made a mistake in reporting they’d met Jesus. While this does not prove the truth or falsity of the Bible’s claims about Jesus’s resurrection, it proves Jesus and other people important to early Christianity were not invented characters from the fourth century or later. As far as modern Judaism is concerned, only those known as the ultra-orthodox still believe in the inerrancy of the Old Testament. And that might be even more awful than being wrong. Merely recognizing that He died for our sins is not enough; we must accept His resurrection in order to receive eternal life. And what would they gain by doing so, anyway? This means attacking all the powers that be. Their preaching was not only, “We believe Jesus is the Christ,” but, “We saw him resurrected and know for a fact it’s true.” Christians today believe Jesus resurrected; the first Christians knew undeniably and evidentially he’d resurrected. The Gospel that doesn’t – Mark (of which the final verses after Mark 16:9 are probably lost) – still records Jesus prophesying the resurrection. Finally, history proves that a vibrant Christian community existed no later than 64 A.D even in Rome itself, with further non-biblical evidence proving Christianity had spread all over the Roman Empire no later than 112 A.D. – and this is evidence outside of the Bible itself.
